02/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - Not enough linkage of energy grids or competition in France and Germany, according to Commissioner Oettinger. In an interview with German newspaper Die Welt on 2 February, EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger focused on the lack of connections between the French energy grid with Spain and also with Germany, particularly between the region of Alsace-Lorraine and the German Länder (regions) of Rheinland-Palatinate and Badem Wurtemberg. He said the final stage of energy liberalisation in Europe comes into force in March this year and the Commission will not only make certain it is put into practice but will also check that the grids are genuinely accessible to all without discrimination. He regretted the lack of competition in many countries, including Germany. The German energy market is dominated by the Big Four - EON, RWE, EnBW and Vattenfall. (E.H./transl.fl)
