21/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - Franco-German initiative to protect citizens' rights in the digital era. After a video-conference meeting, the French MPs of the information mission of the Assemblée nationale on the rights of the individual in the digital revolution and their German counterparts in the committee of investigation on the Internet and digital society set up by the Bundestag, signed a joint declaration calling for European and international initiatives. The French and German MPs want each citizen to be able to exert his or her right to be informed of their personal data and keep control of them. They take the view that it is by protecting individual rights in the digital world that this world will be able remain a space of liberty. This declaration will be submitted to the European Commissioners Viviane Reding (justice and fundamental rights) and Neelie Kroes (digital agenda). (I.L./trans.fl)
