03/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - Launch of Borkum West II off-shore wind farm project. The general meeting of the Trianel Power Windpark Borkum GmbH & Co.KG on 21 December launched the Borkum West II wind farm project which will see the installation of the first large-scale offshore wind farm in the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the North Sea. The wind farm area itself, of approximately 55 km², is located about 45 kilometres north of the East Frisian Island of Borkum. The planned capacity is 200 MW. It is due to be operational by the end of 2012 or early in 2013, and will provide some 200,000 households with green electricity. It is planned that further turbines will be installed in the second phase of the project. More than €700 million has already been invested in the first phase by 11 private and development banks, including the European Investment Bank (EIB). (Com-O.L./transl.rt)
