Brussels, 05/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 4 October, CANSO, the Civil Air Navigation Services, signed up to a European air sector initiative to improve civil aviation performance by making air traffic management decision-making procedures more efficient. The idea is to bring in these new procedures, which will see information more widely shared among players in 10 European airports, by the end of 2011. The projects, launched by Airports Council International - Europe (ACI - Europe) and the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol), plans to allow participating bodies (airport authorities, air navigation services providers and air traffic controllers) into the air traffic management network. This will give users access to information and operational data on air traffic management that will allow them to make their operations more efficient. The practice, called Airport Collaborative Decision-Making (A-CDM), is currently being implemented in some 30 European airports, including Schipol, Brussels, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Prague and Warsaw. The new objective approved by the sector on Tuesday seeks to have the A-CDM fully implemented in 10 of these airports by the end of 2011.
