SMEs must get fully involved in European sectorial social dialogue

Brussels, 20/09/2010 (Agence Europe) - European sectorial social dialogue was at the centre of the work of the seminar held in Brussels on 15 September by UEAPME (Craft, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise) on the subject “Sector Policy, Social Dialogue and SMEs”. The seminar, which was attended by the European Commissioner László Andor (Social Affairs, Employment and Inclusion) and representatives of the transport and construction sectors, stresses the importance for the representatives of SMEs wanting to take an active role in European sectorial social dialogue to enjoy strong political support, so as to encourage them to do so. It is only by acting in this way that the sectorial social dialogue committees will be representative in the economic sector and that the results they achieve and the agreements they conclude will be passed forwards and implemented in all of their companies of the European Union, said those taking part. UEAPME has appealed to the Commission to encourage SMEs to take a greater interest in European sectorial social dialogue and to support their ability to set initiatives in place, whilst providing them with political support to all to become fully involved in sectorial social dialogue.
