01/09/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 31 August, the European Commission put to the Council a proposal for a regulation instituting a definitive countervailing duty of between 5.1% and 17% on imports into the EU of certain kinds of polyethylene terephthalate from Iran, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. The Commission is also proposing collection of the provisional countervailing duty (of between 5.1% and 17%) established on 1 June 2010 on imports of these goods from the above-mentioned counties. Anti-subsidy proceedings were opened following a complaint lodged on 20 July 2009 by the polyethylene terephthalate committee of Plastics Europe. A final report was presented to member states at the meeting of the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy committee on 28 July 2010. Eleven member states said they supported the proposed action, six opposed it and 10 abstained. (O.L./transl.rt)
