Brussels, 28/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - Akadimia Platonos, Die Fremde and Illégal were the three films shortlisted on Tuesday 27 July for the European Parliament's 2010 LUX film prize. The announcement was made during the press conference organised in Rome on the Venice Film Festival taking place on 10-11 September next. Akadimia Platonos is a production between Greece and Germany and directed by Filippos Tsitos; Die Fremde is directed by Feo Aladag; and Illégal is a production between Belgium, France and Luxembourg and directed by Olivier Masset-Depasse.
As with previous winners, the 2010 LUX Prize winning film will receive European Parliament financial support for subtitling the film into all the 23 official languages of the European Union (EU), an adaptation of the original version for the visually- or hearing-impaired, and the production of a 35 mm print per EU member state.
Prize-winning films therefore have an excellent opportunity for distribution and being seen throughout the European Union. The three films on the shortlist will be shown at the Venice Film Festival and viewed by MEPs between 26 October and 19 November. It is the vote by the MEPs that will decide on the winner. The prize will then be awarded on 24 November by the president of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek in Strasbourg. On 28 June Doris Pack (EPP, Germany), the president of the education and culture committee at the EP, unveiled during the European Film Festival in Brussels the pre-selection of the 10 films likely to be selected for the Lux Prize (EUROPE 10170).
