28/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - The EU Council of Ministers decided on Monday 26 July not to oppose the adoption by the European Commission of a directive which adapts an existing directive on inland transport of dangerous goods to scientific and technical progress. The draft legislation, brought forward at the start of July, amends the annexes of Directive 2008/68/EC in the light of a biannual update of international agreements on the transport of dangerous goods. The new provisions will apply to the transport of such goods by road, rail and inland waterways from 1 January 2011, with a transition period up to 30 June 2011. The draft directive has still to be approved by the European Parliament. (A.By./transl.rt)
