Strasbourg, 06/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - Taking part in the EU-China Smart City Forum as part of the Shanghai World Exhibition, European Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger said that the EU would cooperate more with China in the fields of renewable energies and protection of the environment. Oettinger mainly placed emphasis on the important possibilities of transferring technology from China to the EU to combat climate change, underlining that Chinese firms are, in his view, in a good position to export their technological know-how in carbon capture and storage and for the construction of low carbon emissions electricity power plants, over the next ten years. The energy commissioner also spoke of the European Commission's wish to invest €10 million in the Greenstar Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Private Equity Fund, the first energy efficiency focused private equity fund in China. Investment will be made via the Global Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Fund. (E.H./transl.jl)
