23/04/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 27 April, the European Commission is expected to adopt a Green Paper submitted by Androulla Vassiliou on freeing up the potential of the creative and culture industries. Publication of the document will launch a public consultation exercise on how the European Union could promote an environment that would enable the creative and culture industries to generate intelligent, sustainable and inclusive growth, explains the Commission. The creative and culture industries employ more than 5 million people in the EU27, generate 2.6% of EU GDP and are growing faster than other areas of the economy. Digitalisation and the global village are creating new outlets for the European creative and culture industries, particularly small businesses, but small businesses often come up against a raft of obstacles that prevent them from exploiting their full potential.
