Brussels, 19/04/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 19 April, the European Commission confirmed that it had postponed the experts' mission to Athens for consultations with the Greek authorities. “The mission has been postponed to tomorrow or the day after tomorrow” due to disturbances affecting air traffic following the eruption of the volcano in Iceland, the spokesman for Commissioner Olli Rehn informed press. This joint mission of experts from the Commission, ECB and IMF aimed to assess the amount of funding that could be necessary in the event of activating the mixed mechanism, and to explain the conditions for possible assistance. According to a press release from the Greek finance ministry, consultations might begin on Wednesday 21 April if conditions allow. At this stage, nothing has been arranged for transporting the experts but other technical means, such as a teleconference, as an alternative to travel are being looked at, indicated the spokesman.
