Brussels, 30/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - In run-up to international donors' conference, “Towards a New Future for Haiti” in New York on Wednesday 31 March, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton has said that the European Union “will contribute over €1.2 billion to Haiti's reconstruction and development process”.
This figure is €200 million higher than what she announced on Tuesday 23 March, at the last meeting of EU foreign ministers (see EUROPE 10103).
This is not, however, the definitive figure. “There are promises of further donations. A list of final figures will be published tomorrow,” a Commission spokesman told press. (A.N./transl.rt)
