EU 2020 strategy, taxation of financial transactions, consumers, natural disasters in Europe and Chile, post-Copenhagen, CFSP and CubA are all on the agenda from 8 to 11 March

Brussels, 04/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - The following items are on the agenda of the upcoming session of the European Parliament from Monday 8 to Thursday 11 March, in Strasbourg:

Monday 8 March

5.00pm to midnight: - Statement by the president on the International Women's Day; - animal health requirements applicable to the non-commercial movement of pet animals (report by Bairbre de Brùun, first reading); - Commission statement on revision of the “Package Travel Directive”; - oral questions to the Commission on the taxation of financial transactions and on the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA); - annual accounts of certain types of companies as regards micro-entities (report by Klaus-Heiner Lehne, first reading); - and report on competition policy 2008 (report by Sophia in 't Veld).

Tuesday 9 March

9.00am to 11.50am: - Joint key debate on the internal market and consumer protection (reports by Rùoza, Gräfin von Thun Und Hohenstein, on the internal market scoreboard, Anna Hedh on consumer protection and Cristian Silviu Buºoi on SOLVIT); - movement of persons with a long-stay visa (report by Carlos Coelho).

12.00am to 1.00pm: - Votes (reports by Reimer Böge on the mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund in favour of Germany and Lithuania, and the report by Jean-Luc Dehaene concerning the allocation of financial intermediation services indirectly measured (FISIM) for the establishment of the gross national income (GNI), taken into account with respect to the budget of the European Communities and its own resources.

3.00pm to 4.00pm: Question hour with the president of the Commission.

4.00pm to 6.30pm: Commission statement on the international climate policy post-Copenhagen - reinvigorating the international negotiations through immediate action; - oral questions on investing in low carbon technologies; - and oral questions on the second European Roma Summit.

6.30pm to 8.00pm: Question time (Commission).

9.00pm to midnight: Oral questions on: - implementation of the first railway package directives; - the anti-counterfeiting trade agreement (ACTA); - and the regulation applying a scheme of generalised tariff preferences.

Wednesday 10 March

9.00am to 11.50am: Joint debate on foreign and security policy, the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) (reports by Gabriele Albertini on the main aspects and fundamental choices of CFSP and by Arnaud Danjean on implementation of the European Security Strategy and the Common Security and Defence Policy); - oral questions on the treaty of non-proliferation.

12.00am to 1.00pm: Votes (resolutions on EUROPE 2020 Strategy, on the implementation of the Goldstone recommendations on Israel/Palestine, and on the situation of civil society and national minorities in Belarus).

3.00pm to 6.30pm: Statement by the high representative of the Union for foreign affairs and security policy/vice-president of the Commission on EU policy on Arctic issues; - Council and Commission statements on Cuba.

6.00pm to 7.00pm: Question time (Council)

Thursday 11 March

9.00am to 11.00am: Commission statement on the effects of the Xynthia storm in Europe and Commission statement on the situation in Chile and EU humanitarian aid strategy.

12.00am to1.00pm: Votes - mainly on the resolution on the natural disasters in the autonomous region of Madeira and effects of the Xynthia storm in Europe.

3.00pm to 4.00pm: Debate on cases of breaches of human rights, democracy and the rule of law: the case of Gilad Shalit (Franco-Israeli soldier), the escalation of violence in Mexico, and the death penalty (declared legal) in South Korea. (L.C./transl.jl)
