02/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - Bosnia-Herzegovina will table its application to join the EU before the end of the year, the country's foreign minister, Sven Alkalaj, has announced, further to a meeting with the enlargement commissioner, Stefan Füle, late last week in Brussels. The Commission supports the European ambition of the country, but reiterates that considerable efforts remain to be made, particularly to stabilise the political institutions and reform the economy. Bosnia also wants the visa liberalisation procedure to be speeded up and facilitated, but the Commission is insisting on strict adherence to the same criteria that Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia (FYROM) had to fulfil in order for visa obligations to be removed in December 2009.
