Brussels, 24/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 24 February, the European Commission confirmed in a short press release that it had received three complaints against Google, which it is currently examining. The Commission indicated that it had not yet opened a formal investigation, which is usually the case when it receives complaints but had informed Google and requested it to respond to these allegations. The Commission also indicates that it is cooperating very closely with the national competition authorities in this matter but it is refusing to give any other information on the affair for the moment. Before the Commission's announcement, Google had announced in its blog that it would provide information following the complaints made by the groups accusing it of not having respected competition rules: the British price comparison site Foundem; the search engine ejustice.fr, and the portal Microsoft Ciao ! Julia Holtz, Google's legal adviser, affirmed on the same blog that “we are convinced that our business is operated in the interests of our users and partners and is in line with European competition rules”.
