Call on Globalisation Adjustment Fund to contribute

Brussels, 27/01/2010 (Agence Europe) - On 22 January, the European Commission adopted three proposals aimed at releasing funding from the EU 2010 budget under the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund. The texts of the proposals have still to be approved by the two branches of budgetary authority: - the EU Council of Ministers and the European Parliament.

The Commission suggests that Germany be allocated the sum of €6.19 million, further to the 2,476 dismissals from the company, Karmann GmbH, specialised in the manufacture of cars.

The Commission also suggests allocating €258,163 to Lithuania (651 people have lost their jobs at AB Snaigé). Finally the sum of €1.118 million has been earmarked to assist people (at least 1,000) who, in Lithuania, have lost their jobs in the construction sector. (L.C./transl.j)
