Brussels, 13/01/2010 (Agence Europe) - At its first meeting of 2010, the Gas Coordination Group, which brings together experts from the member states, national regulators and gas industry and consumer representatives with the Commission, discussed security of gas supply for EU member states and members of the Energy Community (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia) this winter and its work priorities for 2010. In the face of the exceptional situations in which certain EU countries find themselves given weather conditions and specific import conditions, the Commission said that storage levels were higher than last year, and welcomed the European gas sector's ability to ensure continuity of supply to all consumers. The Group also took stock of work competed last year during and after January 2009's gas crisis, and exchanged views to determine the priorities for 2010. Building on what had been achieved by the task force on supply interruption simulations, the Group continued its discussion of a number of scenarios prepared by Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE). The Group's next meeting is scheduled for 15 February. (E.H./transl.rt)
