The economic crisis and the fall in the level of demand have led to a situation of overcapacity in the oil sector, according to Institut français du pétrole. In 2007, demand increased by +1.0 million barrels a day (Mb/d), the lowest rise since 2002. In 2008, the increase in demand is only expected to be +1.0 Mb/d as well. Forecasts have been significantly revised downwards, given that a year ago AIE predicted growth of +1.5 Mb/d and +2.2 for 2007 and 2008 respectively. (I.L./transl.fl)
