Brussels, 30/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - The EU and the French Development Agency (AFD) are to join forces to fund energy management and industrial clean-up initiatives in Tunisia, a press release says. They have announced that a further €3 million will be granted in addition to the €40 million credit line for projects in these two areas. The EU role will be to subsidise the AFD credit line, which will back the Tunisian government's environmental policy. The AFD says that it has already provided €1.3 million for environmental training. The EU, in this instance the Commission, will make subsidies worth a total of €18.5 million available to two specialist Tunisian funds. These initiatives will help limit Tunisia's greenhouse gas emissions and reduce atmospheric and water pollution, it is reported. (F.B./transl.rt)
