16/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 12 November 2009, the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a €395 million finance contract with Romania to fund the fourth phase of modernising the Bucharest underground network, namely Line 5 Drumul Taberei - Pantelimon, section Drumul Taberei - Universitate. The EIB has already granted other loans to help modernise Bucharest's underground system, modernisation estimated to cost €883 million in total. The project is to be carried out by SC METROREX SA, with the completion date set for end of 2015. It will involve building a new metro line and purchasing rolling stock (37 new subway trains).
