04/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - On 4 November 2009, the European Commission invited comments from interested parties on commitments offered by the French energy company EDF in response to European Commission concerns about EDF abusing its market position in France. The Commission is concerned that EDF may hinder through its contracting practices the entry and expansion of competitors on the market for retail supplies of electricity to large industrial users. EDF's commitments become binding if they are accepted by the Commission after this consultation process. They are part of a wider reform of the electricity market in France. The non-confidential sections of the commitments can be found at http: //ec.europa.eu/competition/antitrust/cases/index/by_nr_78.html#i39_386. Interested parties have a month to submit their comments to the Commission. (C.D./transl.fl)
