Reform of Schengen area, MEPs approve Sylvie Guillaume’s mandate to begin negotiations with EU Council

05/10/2023 (Agence Europe) – On 5 October, the European Parliament approved the opening of inter-institutional negotiations on the reform of the Schengen Borders Code by 370 votes to 163, with 31 abstentions. The European Parliament negotiating team will be led by the rapporteur, Sylvie Guillaume (S&D, French), whose report was adopted on 20 September (see EUROPE B13255A4).
