03/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - On the sidelines of the informal JHA Council in Lisbon, the interior ministers of Portugal and Malta, Rui Pereira and Tonio Borg respectively, concluded a memorandum of understanding between their respective countries on Monday 1 October, on the resettlement of a group of refugees. The memorandum establishes that the Portuguese government will accept a group of people, to number no more than 12, who are calling for international protection and who were discovered in Malta, where they remain for the time being. This cooperation will take place with the support of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (HCR). (bc)
