18/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner Barnier and the Spanish Finance Minister signed the Community support framework in Brussels on Wednesday for "Objectve 1" regional aid in Spain for the period 2000-2006. This document sets priorities for the granting of 39,548 million euro Community aid for the period as a whole (for the details, see EUROPE of 28 July, p.13). Spain is the largest receiver of Objective 1 aid, intended for regions whose GNP is below 75% of the Community average. The operational programmes, which complement and detail the Community suppoert framework, should be approved by the end of the year.
