27/08/2026 (Agence Europe) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will travel to Greenland on Sunday 6 and Monday 7 September, Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho announced on Thursday 27 August. Ms von der Leyen will meet Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Faroese Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen. She will be accompanied by Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela and Special Adviser for the EU-Arctic relations Jyrki Katainen. During her visit, Ms von der Leyen will sign the EU-Greenland joint declaration. “This visit underscores Europe’s commitment to the Arctic, its security and cooperation, a key priority for the European Union”, Ms Pinho emphasised, while US President Donald Trump seeks to claim this autonomous Danish territory for the United States.
