DIGITALEUROPE calls for “grace period” to apply new artificial intelligence transparency rules

In a LinkedIn post published on Monday 27 July, the association DIGITALEUROPE called for a “grace period” in order to apply the new AI transparency rules entering into force on 2 August.

Today, we welcome the entry into force of the AI Omnibus, which provides much-needed additional time to implement the AI Act’s high-risk rules. However, most transparency obligations will still apply from 2 August, giving businesses almost no time to prepare.”

These rules will require certain AI-generated content, including ‘deepfakes’, to be marked and labelled. Companies will also have to decide whether they will sign the new voluntary Code of Practice to demonstrate their compliance.

We call for an initial grace period, where national market surveillance authorities and the AI Office, within its remit, should prioritise practical guidance and compliance support, give companies time to adapt their systems, [and] reserve enforcement action for serious breaches.”
