08/10/2026 (Agence Europe) – Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) adopted the draft compromise amendments setting out the arrangements for the future European Critical Materials Centre by show of hands on Thursday 8 October. The report as a whole was adopted by 64 votes to one, with 17 abstentions (see EUROPE 13953/14). Mohamed Chahim’s (S&D, Dutch) amended report calls on the Commission, among other things, to propose an initiative by the end of 2026 to establish the Centre and determine its location. The Centre should help Member States step up their efforts to produce or acquire critical materials more easily. The Centre was announced in December 2025 as part of the Commission’s RescueUE plan.
