13/07/2016 (Agence Europe) -EMIS commission of enquiry at European Parliament adopts interim report. On Wednesday 13 July, the EMIS commission of enquiry at the European Parliament adopted its interim report on the Volkswagen affair. The content of it is not particularly detailed and focuses on highlighting the actors invited to the debates and methodology for the debates, but does not provide any conclusions of what happened at them. According to one source, this explains the sluggish progress achieved by the commission of enquiry, who also points out the European Commission having obstructed access to certain key documents (EUROPE 11589). This source does point out, however, that the phase now beginning could prove more fruitful. Former Commissioner for Industry, Günter Verheugen, has confirmed that he will meet MEPs after the summer recess (EUROPE 11590). It is very likely that he will also be accompanied by former Commissioners Janez Potocnik (Environment) and Antonio Tajani (Industry). (PH)
