13/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - Adoption of business confidentiality directive at Council postponed. The adoption in point A of the business confidentiality directive that was initially foreseen for the Agriculture Council on 17 May has been postponed to an unspecified date, a source explained to this newsletter on Friday 13 May, the reason given being simply a last minute translation adjustment. The directive was adopted at the European Parliament in April (see EUROPE 11532), followed by a green light from the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER I) on 11 May (see EUROPE 11549). Viewed as providing too little protection for whistle-blowers, the Greens/EFA group at the European Parliament echoed the draft directive with a 'mirror' directive on protection for whistle-blowers, which got the backing of most of the political groups and lip service from the European Commission, to the astonishment of many observers (see EUROPE 11546).
