04/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - Automobile manufacturers improve collision tests with pedestrians. The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) has joined forces with the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA) and test equipment providers to develop an articulated pedestrian dummy which can better simulate a pedestrian crossing the street and help improve autonomous cars' braking systems. The Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, has made smart transport systems her battle horse in the fight against road accidents (see EUROPE 11484), particularly because of the poor results in 2014 (see EUROPE 11281). By using stationary dummies, current crash tests fail to accurately replicate real situations (see EUROPE 11492). (PH)
