08/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - Mogherini calls for elections respecting international standards. On Monday 7 September, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stated at the end of a meeting with Ukraine's Foreign Affairs Minister Pavlo Klimkin that it was “fundamental” that the local elections held by the separatists “take place in accordance with Ukrainian law and OSCE electoral standards”. These elections are one of the elements of the Minsk agreements. The separatist regions want to hold the elections on 18 October although elsewhere in the country they will take place on 25 October. Mogherini and Klimkin agreed on the “need” for international monitoring of these “crucial” elections. The OSCE will deploy international observers, including observers from the EU member states. (CG)
