In the first quarter of 2012, the household saving rate stood at 11.6% in the EU27, compared with 11.5% in the fourth quarter of 2011, according to figures released on Wednesday 1 August by the European Union's statistical office, Eurostat. The household saving rate in the eurozone was 13.3% in the first quarter of 2012, the same as in the fourth quarter of 2011. The household investment rate (mostly comprising mortgage payments) remained low in both the EU27 (8.3%) and the eurozone (9%). Real disposable household income rose in the eurozone in the first quzrter of 2012 by 0.2%, following a 0.5% fall in the fourth quarter of 2011. (MB/transl.fl)
