27/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - Updating of CFSP sanctions. The targeted sanctions (so-called “smart” sanctions) imposed in Somalia by the EU, have been updated for transposition of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2002 (2011). On 26 September, the EU Council proceeded to their updating, without debate, extending CFSP designation criteria to include the use of children in armed conflicts in Somalia, and those responsible for targeting civilians in situations of armed conflict. At the same time, it clarified an exemption to the asset freeze for funds necessary to ensure the timely delivery of urgently needed humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations. The Council also updated the list of persons and entities subject to restrictive measures. (AN/transl.jl)
