ENVIRONMENT: COP17 on biodiversity - Europe wants to expand pool of funding contributors

Meeting in Yerevan, Armenia, from 19 to 30 October for COP17 on biodiversity, the signatory countries to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity are set to assess their progress and discuss how to finance their commitments. The European Union and France want to expand the pool of contributors to include major emerging economies and Gulf countries, a proposal that is meeting with strong resistance.
