Although France is the second biggest European manufacturer after Germany, it still saw its car sales fall last year. The car sector export/import report for 2008 posted a deficit of €2.9bn compared to a positive balance of payments just three years ago (€8.8bn) and €12.3bn in 2004. (I.L./transl.rh)
