06/11/2008 (Agence Europe) - Justice, Freedom and Security Commissioner Jacques Barrot said on Tuesday 4 November that he was not in favour of taking the fingerprints of children from age six and above applying for Schengen visas. “If we mark a first stage at age 12, that's fine. We don't need to build up a whole series of data, the use of which may not even be relevant,” he said. The 2006 regulation, which amends joint Consular instructions in line with the introduction of biometric elements, will be discussed at the next JHA Council on 27-28 November (see EUROPE 9702).
