13/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - In the first half of 2007, a total of 265,000 counterfeit euro banknotes (representing a value of a little under €20million) were withdrawn from circulation, the European Central Bank (ECB) revealed this week. This figure, to be seen against the 11 million banknotes in circulation, is the same as for the second half of 2006 and is slightly down on previous half-yearly periods.
