THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/constitution

27/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - Some fifty members of the European Parliament, Catholics for a Free Choice, the International Humanist and Ethical Union, the European Humanist Federation and the European Parliament Working Group on Religion and Politics adopted, on Tuesday 27 February, the Brussels Declaration upholding the “secular values” of Europe as the German EU Presidency prepares to resume talks on the European Constitution. One of the founders of the declaration, Elfriede Harth, stressed before the press that “people of faith” should “stand up for inclusive values and ensure that (…) the Constitution is not hijacked by those who seek to impose unrepresentative religious values on others”. The declaration is in the public domain and may be signed by all European citizens at: http: //http://www.vision4europe.org. (hb)
