GENERAL NEWS / (eu) telecommunications

Following an initial aborted attempt, ALCATEL and LUCENT are re-negotiating their merger. This involves a takeover of LUCENT by ALCATEL in an operation that will cost almost € 28 billion. The new entity will be a world player in equipment, with an annual turnover of at least € 28 billion. ALCATEL will have a stake of around 60% in the new business.
