17/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday evening, Parliament debated the prospects for peace in Sri Lanka, ahead of a meeting of parties to be held, under the aegis of Norway, on 22 and 23 February in Geneva. Ultimately no resolution was agreed, the various political groups deciding to retract the texts they had proposed at the start. Commissioner Borg spoke of the concrete support provide by the EU to the people of Sri Lanka, whether it be aid to victims of the conflict between the authorities and Tamils or aid to those affected by the Tsunami of last year. Several MEPs, like the British Liberal Elizabeth Lynn, stressed the need for all parties really to take part in talks, and German PDS MEP Tobias Pflüger protested that it was not surprising that these negotiations were taking place in Geneva or Oslo, the Tamils being on the EU list of terrorists, they could not come here.
