17/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption on 16 February (356 to 47 and 18 abstentions), of a report by Heinz Kindermann (PES, Germany), the European Parliament gives its support to the EU's forestry strategy. It agrees with the European Commission which considers that the devleopment of Community policies implies greater integration of European forestry strategy in the whole of European policy and cooperation between Member States in this field. It supports the Commission's initiative to establish an EU action plan for sustainable management of forests. Commission and Council are invited to examine the possibilities of creating a specific legal base for forests in the Treaty (or in the future Constitution).
