23/08/2004 (Agence Europe) - According to Reuters, the future Commissioner for taxation, Ingrida Udre from Latvia, declared on Friday that she was against the introduction of a minimum tax for businesses, as proposed by France and Germany. Ms Udre prefers a harmonisation of tax rates (also sought by Paris and Berlin) and pointed out that several new Member States have been trying for several years to attract direct investment from abroad and that low tax rates attracted foreign investors.
