05/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - The meeting between the President of the European Parliament and the presidents of national parliaments being held in Madrid from 7 to 9 June could be an opportunity for an offensive by the parliaments of Member states (the European Convention will debate the role of national parliaments Friday morning: see EUROPE of 1 June, p.4). Indeed, the President of the Italian Senate Pera will present a proposal (which the President of the Chamber, Casini is said to oppose) by which, before the next IGC, national parliaments should decide on the text that the European Convention will adopt.
