03/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - After the EP/Council conciliation procedure on the draft Directive on takeovers, the Secretary General of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), Emilio Gabaglio, stressed that the conciliation compromise document only made a very small reference to worker information without mentioning any real information and consultation procedure for workers and their representatives. If takeovers impact on employment, Mr Gabaglio said that workers should be able to take part in the takeover process. He said that while the resulting compromise was better than before, it was still weak and insufficient and trade unions had to remain coherent with what they stand for.03/07/2001.
