27/10/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 27 October, the European Commission approved €319 million in Austrian State aid to support upgrading Infineon Technologies Austria AG (IFAT)’s existing semiconductor facility in Villach, Carinthia, according to a press release. “The measure will contribute to strengthening the EU’s position and autonomy in the semiconductor value chain”. IFAT’s ‘Empowering Fab’ project aims to set up high-volume power gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor device manufacturing. Gallium nitride can be used in a wide range of key applications, like artificial intelligence, energy infrastructure, electric mobility, and robotics. (SP)
