04/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - Dialogue between European leaders, Vladimir Putin and Syrian opposition. On Friday 4 March, the French President, Italian and British Prime Ministers and the German Chancellor held a telephone meeting with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, regarding the situation in Syria. They agreed on the importance of applying the ceasefire, coordinating their efforts to provide humanitarian aid and provide a perspective for a peaceful solution. Nonetheless, although François Hollande said that the idea of organising elections in Syria this April was not only “a provocative idea but also totally unrealistic”, Vladimir Putin said that this would not in fact “harm the peace process”. At the same time, Foreign Affairs Ministers from France, United Kingdom, Germany, in addition to the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, also met up in Paris to discuss Syria, with the coordinator of the Syrian opposition, Riad Hijab.
