12/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 12 July, the EU Council of Ministers approved, without debate, the decision on the signing of the air safety agreement between the EU and Brazil which introduces mutual recognition of standards and procedures (see EUROPE 9996). The agreement, which was finalised at the EU-Latin America civil aviation summit in May of this year (see EUROPE 10144), is expected to be signed on Wednesday 14 July, on the sidelines of the EU-Brazil summit. Unexpectedly, the Council found it impossible, for procedural reasons, to approve the signing of the agreement between the EU and Indonesia on a number of points on air services. This cross-cutting agreement will bring the current bilateral agreements between Indonesia and EU member states into line with European legislation. It will also remove any nationality restrictions imposed by these agreements on air services between the member states of the EU and Indonesia. (A.By./transl.rt)
