11/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - Bernd Posselt, a German member of the EPP, has requested details from the EU Council of Ministers about the EU's Danube Strategy, details requested by a number of Member States, including Hungary and Austria. Diego López Garrido, Spanish secretary of state for European affairs, said that in June 2009, the Council of Ministers had asked the European Commission to prepare proposals in this connection. Public consultations are underway that will soon be complete and the Commission is expected to formally unveil its proposals in December 2010. The main aims of the Danube Strategy are economic and social development, social cohesion and 'territorial cohesion' (the latter being an innovation introduced by the Lisbon Treaty). (L.G.)
