There is no unanimity among EU countries on targeted sanctions against military junta, according to Josep Borrell

On Tuesday 12 September, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, revealed that the Member States were not united on the issue of targeted restrictive measures against those responsible for the coup d’état in Niger on 26 July.

At the end of an informal meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers in Toledo on 31 August, however, he announced that the EU was ready to adopt an autonomous sanctions framework (see EUROPE B13240A3).
