Directive aimed at combating violence against women, MEPs urge inclusion of non-consensual rape

The interinstitutional negotiations (trilogue) on the directive on combating violence against women and domestic violence continued on Wednesday 13 December.

This proposal, presented on 8 March 2022, aims to close the gaps in protection and access to justice for women across the EU and to bring EU legislation into line with international standards, in particular the Istanbul Convention. It provides for the criminalisation of rape based on the absence of consent.
